Friday, November 06, 2009 from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM (ET)
Be part of the SiG@MaRS "Spotlight Series on Social Innovation 2009"
You are invited to a discussion with Rt. Hon. Paul Martin and Mr. Bill Young, moderated by Mr. John Tory.
The
discussion will focus on how market forces can be used to effectively
to solve social challenges in Canada. The panelists will speak to the
impact social purpose businesses have in effecting social and
environmental change in Canada, and how with changes to the Canada
Revenue Agency regulations and better tax incentives, corporations
could start looking seriously at the nonprofit sector as an investment
opportunity.
Panelists will touch on:
Mr. Martin and Mr. Young have forged ahead with two independent funds: the $50 million Capital for Aboriginal Prosperity & Entrepreneurship Fund, which invests in Aboriginal businesses; and Social Capital Partners’ venture capital fund for social enterprises and franchises that employ populations outside the economic mainstream.
